Republic of Song

REPUBLIC OF SONG is the brainchild of Brisbane soprano Jo Willans. It is an independent production company that specialises in opera production, musical theatre, concerts, cabaret and corporate entertainment. REPUBLIC OF SONG is renowned for innovative, creative, site-specific performances.

Jo Willans is a Queensland Conservatorium graduate with a love of opera, musical theatre and cabaret. This fed a desire to gather the best artists in South-East Queensland to create special and unusual shows. REPUBLIC OF SONG's debut came in 2016 with Brisbane's Anywhere Festival, with the opera The Medium, presented to wide acclaim at the historic Spring Hill Reservoirs. 

2018 saw REPUBLIC OF SONG receive rave reviews and a Reviewer's Pick Award at Anywhere Theatre Festival with our creation, The Ballad of Rosie Quinn. The production was then invited to feature at 2018's Valley Fiesta. 

In May 2019,  REPUBLIC OF SONG premiered SKYWARD -  a moving meditation of aerial circus and art song for Anywhere Festival, in a collaboration with Vulcana Women's Circus, featuring Georgia-Elizabeth Bale, aerialist, and Jo Willans, soprano. 

2021 brought a new work, Eve's Game, a combination of immersive theatre and a Victorian detective game, brought to life in Miegunyah House, one of Brisbane's grand Victorian homes. This project won the support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, and has more seasons in October, December and in 2022.
